This is a study of the dates mentioned in the Bible and whether they have any prophetic significance for today.

The Fall of Jericho

1422 B.C. - Immediately after the Children of Israel kept the Passover in the Plain of Gilgal, they conquered Jericho during the Days of Unleavened Bread.

God had earlier prepared the way by placing fear in the hearts of Israel's enemies. He dried up the Red Sea and the Jordan River.

Joshua 4

3 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.

Joshua 5

1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

The Jordan floods its banks this time of year. The Amorites and Canaanites probably felt quite safe as long as the river was flooded it served as a natural moat for their protection. But God dried up a flooded river!

Joshua 6

1   Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
2   And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
3   And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
4   And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
5   And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

Predicting the future.

A careful reading of the history of the Exodus will reveal that the Israelites were frequently told in advance what would happen. Here at Jericho the people were told about a week in advance what would happen.

God has said in Amos 3:7 "Surely the Lord will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants, the prophets."

God may tell us only a few days in advance as he did in Egypt and at Jericho. A good understanding of the Holidays will help us 'get the message' and also understand The Book of Revelation.

The important thing to notice here is that the Egyptians were destroyed in the Red Sea on the last day of the Days of Unleavened Bread.

On the last day of the Days of Unleavened Bread the walls of Jericho fell.

Just wondering, will Babylon the Great fall on the last day of the days of Unleavened bread?

The Israelites marched around Jericho once a day for six days. On the seventh day they went around the city seven times. In the Book of Revelation we have this same pattern.

Learning from the past to prepare for the future.

Isaiah 43

1   But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
2   When thou passest through the waters, (Like the Red Sea) I will be with thee; and through the rivers, (Like the Jordan.) they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, (Nuclear war?) thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Isaiah 10

24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.
26 And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

The future deliverance may be similar to the past deliverances. All past deliverances were on Bible Holidays. "After the manner of Egypt."

There is an excellent Cassette Tape Bible study showing how America's future deliverance may be according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb:
