The Bible And Money

Question: When Jesus Christ went to Church, where did He sit?

Mark 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

Answer: Beside the collection box to see how the people cast money into the treasury.

Money is one of the things that interest people most. Money is the one thing that many people believe is to be of no interest to the average Christian. We seem to think that the Bible, the prophets, and Jesus Christ had no interest in money, except perhaps to "give it to the poor."

Isaiah, Money And America

Isaiah 1:22 reads, "Thy silver has become dross, thy wine mixed with water."

The word translated "silver" is the same word translated "money." "Dross" is worthless. If Isaiah were alive here in America could he say, "Your money has become worthless and your coffee cream has become a non-dairy product."

But you say, "our money is not worthless and I like my coffee creamer." God has a way of fulfilling prophecy right before our eyes and we don't even see it take place.

You are going to see how (1) this change in our money took place, and (2) how we were plundered and (3) placed in unpayable debt, all made possible by the violation of just one little Bible Law.

If you are like most people, all this happened right before your eyes but you never noticed it. Let's begin with a discussion of Article 1, Section 10 of the United States Constitution.

"Congress shall have the power to coin money
and regulate the value thereof."

What is money? In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses uses the word "money" nine times. Deuteronomy 2:6 is the first mention of the word money. There are the nine places in Deuteronomy using the word "money": (To discover the Bible's teaching on a subject, look up the key words in a good concordance such as Strong's.)

The word money in Deuteronomy.

2:6.     "Ye shall buy meat of them for money..."
6.        "shall also buy water of them for money.."
28.      "Thou shall sell meat for money..."
28.      "give me water for money, that I may..."
14:25. "Then thou shalt turn it into money..."
25.      "and bind up the money in thine hand..."
26.      "And thou shalt bestow that money for..."
21:14. "thou shalt not sell her at all for money..."
23:19. "usury of money, usury of victuals, usury..."

In the book of Deuteronomy the word silver is used six times:

7:25.   "thou shalt not desire the silver or gold..."
8:13.   "thy silver and thy gold is multiplied,.."
17:1.   "multiply to himself silver and gold..."
22:19. "him and a hundred shekels of silver,.."
22:29. "damsel's father fifty shekles of silver..."
29:17. "wood and stone, silver and gold..."

In each case the word translated money is word #3701 in the Hebrew dictionary of Strong's Concordance.  The word translated money is the exact same word which is translated "silver." Also word #3701 Silver!

Genesis 23:15-16

15 My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.

16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
