The End of the Age
(The Day of the Lord)
2 Peter 3:4 And (scoffers) saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
This verse summarizes the present thinking about the Earth and its history. "all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."
The belief is that, there are no forces shaping the world in the past that do not exist today. And that these forces act very slowly over very long periods of time.
Evolution teaches that life forms changed very slowly over millions of years.
We are told that not much happen on the earth that is not slow. The only exciting exception might be a meteor impact once in 50,000 years or so.
That mountains gradually rise and mountains gradually wear down via rain.
That ancient cities are buried under layers of dirt that very gradually accumulated.
That the continents very slowly move about over the face of the Earth.
That Ice Ages come and go very slowly.
That the Earth has been revolving about the sun in an unchanging orbit for a few billions of years.
"all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."
But that is not so. The Earth suffers great catastrophes rather frequently. The fact that these past events took place are actually as plain as the nose on your face and are mentioned in the Bible. Future like events are called, "The Day of the Lord" and "The End of the Age"
While not active at this time, there are huge forces that act very fast, very destructively, over very short periods of time.
Here is an example of what I mean when I say, "as plain as the nose on your face". Recently I built a house. When excavating the foundation I saw tilted layers of sand, clay and rocks. Not level but at all angles. Something violent had obviously happened to my property in the distant past.
There were no sea shells or evidence of life in a very pure layer of fine sand. Yet less that a mile away there is a high hill that is filled with sea shells. How did the top of the hill become full of sea shells? You have seen soil like this while traveling the highways. When a roadway is cut through a hill or mountain many broken layers of slanted rock are revealed.
Any child can see that something violent has taken place on this planet to cause all this. But the learned scientists tell you, "all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."
Worlds in Collision
In 1950 Immanuel Velikovsky wrote a book titled Worlds in Collision. It caused a stir in the scientific community. The book was soundly rejected by such reputable "as seen on TV" experts such as astronomer Dr. Carl Sagan.
Velikovsky's Worlds in Collision mentioned many Bible events and verses. He showed how they had to
do with disturbances in our solar system. With comets and the formation of
a new planet - Venus. The planet Venus did not exist before the Exodus. At
the time of the Exodus Venus was a comet. Comet Venus disturbed the orbits of Mars and the
Earth. The plagues in Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea were caused by comet
Venus. That there are historical, archeological and mythological records of
these events which are also recorded in the Bible.

The scientists scoffed because there is no way to explain Velikovsky's claims based upon the accepted gravity only understanding of celestial mechanics.
Religious scoffers will exclaim accusingly, "Are you saying that God had nothing to do with the miracles at the time of the Exodus?" The religious scoffers of Moses might have said to Pharaoh, "Don't listen to that Moses. Can't you see what is happening? Look at the sky! It's a huge comet! There is no God behind this! Moses is just taking advantage of the situation!
Velikovsky described what happened but he could not describe why of the
science behind these events. However he did say this in the epilogue
of his
book Worlds in Collision.

Thus celestial mechanics does not conflict with cosmic catastrohism. I must admit, however, that in searching for the causes of the great upheavals of the past and in considering their effects, I became skeptical of the great theories concerning the celestial motions that were formulated when the historical facts described here were not known to science. The subject deserves to be discussed in detail and quantitatively. All that I would venture to say at this time and in this place is the following: The accepted celestial mechanics, notÂwithstanding the many calculations that have been carried out to many decimal places, or verified by celestial motions, stands only if the sun, the source of light, warmth, and other radiation produced by fusion and fission of atoms, is as a whole an electrically neutral body, and also if the planets, in their usual orbits, are neutral bodies. Fundamental principles in celestial mechanics including the laws of gravitation, must come into question if the sun possesses a charge sufficient to influence the planets in their orbits or the comets in theirs. In the Newtonian celestial mechanics, based on the theory of gravitation, electricity and magnetism play no role. |
Now comes Professor James McCanney saying; the sun does possesses an electrical charge sufficient to influence the planets in their orbits and the comets in theirs. That planets and comets can have electrical charges. That the sun's electric charge affects our weather. That we live in an electric universe. That electricity, magnetism as well as gravity play a big role.
Professor McCanney shows that comets are not little ice balls with long tails but rather electrically charged moon and planet sized threats to our very existence.
That the sun, moon, planets and stars are NOT electrically neutral bodies.
Professor McCanney makes Velikovsky's fifty
year old books as modern as tomorrow's newspaper.

| 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day | |
| 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. | |
| 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. | This time of trouble will come upon the world suddenly. One reason for the 'suddenness' is because the governments will keep the news of the approaching danger a secret as long as possible. They fear the panic that the news of the approaching planet sized comet would bring. |
| 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, | If we behave ourselves and obey the
commands that God has already given us then we will not have to suffer this
coming global catastrophe. Notice in verse 5 and verse 7 God is in control. 5 - that by the word of God the heavens were of old 7 - by the same word are kept in store God is in control. This time of trouble does not have to come to pass. But when our world, especially when the United States becomes like Sodom and Gomorrah, it will suffer the same fate. It is called, "The Day of The Lord" and "the end of the age". |
| 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? | This verse is not poetic language. It is a description of world wide planetary upheaval. Velikovsky describes past upheavals in his book Earth in Upheaval. |
| 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness | The destruction of the wicked leaves only
the righteous. Like Noah and his family. Like Lot escaping from Sodom and like
the Israelites escaping from Egypt. The 'new heavens' has to do with a pole shift or/or change in the Earth's orbit. The sky map will change. The sun might rise in the West rather than in the East. A new calendar will be required. In Exodus, when God said Exodus 12:2 "This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you." It was because the Earth's orbit had changed old calendar was no longer valid. The 'new Earth' means the maps will need revision. Land masses will sink into the sea, (like Atlantis) mountains rise. The North and South poles could be at different locations. Your present location might suddenly become the new north pole and you could freeze to death over night, if you lived long enough. |
| 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. | When these events take place there is no safe place except God be with you. And this is where Acts 2:21 applies. It is at this time that "whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved". |
| 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; | Because these events have not yet taken
place, those who lived their lives without having to experience this time
of trouble have found a form of present day salvation. But like Jesus
said of one future time of trouble, Luke 21:23 "But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people." 1 Timothy 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. |
| 2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. |
